Vata Body Type: Space and Air
A famous Ayurvedic text defines the characteristics of the Vata constitutional type: dry and rough; cool; light-lacking weight; very tiny, penetrating molecules; always moving; broad, unlimited, unbounded; and rough.
Air can gain force and become powerful like a hurricane
Vata is a force conceptually made up of elements: ether and air. The proportions of ether and air determine how active Vata is. The amount of ether (space) affects the ability of the air to gain force. If unrestricted, as in ocean, air can gain force and become powerful like a hurricane.
Vata means "wind, to move, flow, direct the processes of, or command." It enables the other two body types to be expressive. The actions of Vata are: drying, cooling, agitating, and moving.
How do they look?
Women with more Vata in their constitution tend to be thin, with a slim structure and prominent joints. They have delicate skin that is naturally dry and voluminous hair. They have a tendency towards constipation as a result of dryness. Generally their feet and hands are cold because of a poor blood circulation. They have rough and cracked skin, nails, hair and crackling joints. Nails may be brittle. A woman with a Vata body type might be thought of as very tall or very short.
They are…
…quick and lively in thought and action, and make friends easily. They like traveling and often have mood swings. There is an element of freshness to their step, a quality of lightness in their laughter. They are creative, enthusiastic and flexible in attitude. They are alert, often impatient and always active. They are friendly but can be hesitant.
They have a quick mind to grasp data but forget it easily. They earn money easily and spend easily or spend on impulse.
